Costa Calida Spanish are delighted to invite you the beautiful Bay of Mazarron with its unspoilt blue flag beaches for one of our Pilates Holidays with a difference.
The Retreats are held in April, May, September or October when it’s sunny and warm. The Retreats are held in Puerto de Mazarron, on The Costa Calida, a popular, but still modest, resort on the rugged south-easterly coast in Murcia.
The Costa Calida — ‘the warm coast’ — has its own micro-climate. The sunny season arrives early and stays late. That’s why the Retreats are held in these months and you can still swim in the sea!
Accommodation is in luxury, spacious apartments a few minutes stroll from the beach. You can chose whether to have the apartment to yourself, share it, or share a room, depending on your budget.
Most mornings after breakfast, there is a Pilates class overlooking the Mediterranean sea where Fran gives three levels for every exercise, depending on our fitness. She takes account of everyone’s posture and ability. It’s a world away from a sweaty gym where all you can see is your uncoordinated self in floor-to-ceiling mirrors.
Instead of air-conditioning, you are warmed by the sun and instead of music, you hear the sea gently swooshing onto the beach below or the sound of silence on the hillside. Exercising outdoors is such a treat for the senses that it barely feels like exercising.
After a coffee break and time to relax, as part of the relaxed daily routine, we have lunch, and Antonio our Spanish teacher and tour guide, teaches us some holiday Spanish.
Lunch is long and leisurely, included in the price, and a generous ‘menu del dia’ with a couple of courses and wine.
The afternoons will be spent on various activities and fascinating trips learning about the local history, visiting local historic sites, optional walks, wine tasting, cycle rides depending on the weather and of course what everyone would like to do. The area is steeped in history from prehistoric times to Phoenician, Roman and with many places of interest and excavated sites. A visit to Cartagena is a must to see the roman amphitheatre and excavations and the town of Mazarron to see the stunning mining features and old mining industry.
If you prefer to do your own thing on our Pilates Holidays and just relax the choice is yours. We can also organise fitness, yoga, walking, hiking, cycling, scuba diving, snorkelling, boat trips, dolphin boat trips (depending on weather) golf, tennis, massage, beauty treatments and much more. Most of these are extras which will need to be paid for.
Mazarron itself and the coastal areas are separated by Sierra de las Moreras, Sierra de las Herrerias and Sierra del Algorrabo being the ideal area for the practice of outdoor activities such as walking, hiking, cycling or climbing. If this is your thing, we can arrange this for you.
Evenings: We will go to a local Spanish restaurants or tapas bar. or to a local bar for a drink. This is not included in the price.
Who are our Retreats for? Our Retreats are totally Bespoke and we cater for small groups/friends/family/businesses with a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 people. We will look after you all the time during your stay.
Frances Brown, the facilitator, is passionate about sharing the benefits of Pilates and once you see her sculpted body you will be won over too.
Such a beautiful spot for Pilates and Yoga
How great to go on holiday and return in better shape than when you left. That is how Fran our instructor made me feel. I gained a new respect for my body and was able to move in ways to help me physically and mentally. Plus lose inches!! Fran is very knowledgeable and will give individual attention, knowing that different bodies have different strengths. Yoga Shala is the perfect location for a pilates retreat. It is situated above the beach affording beautiful vistas, so peaceful. Also easy access to the beach for for those lovely walks and swimming.
The costacalida yoga and pilates holiday was very enjoyable. The apartment was very spacious and comfortable and had good views of the sea and had a lovely swimming pool, the location was quiet and within walking distance of the town. It was a nice touch to have bread and milk etc for when we arrived. We did yoga and pliates in an amazing location right by the sea and then went for lunch trying all sorts ofSpanish dishes. We did some interesting tours from Monday to Friday in the afternoons. Antonio was our tour guide and Spanish teacher and he was brilliant. The Mazarran coast is very beautiful and quite unspoilt and also has a micro climate, I would really recommend this holiday!
Our experienced and enviably toned teacher Fran was methodical and attentive in her approach. Having never done Pilates before I was amazed at how much it engages your core muscles.
Costa Calida Spanish is organised by Pilates Supremo Fran Brown and I am a convert. During the Pilates class Fran gives us three levels for every exercise depending on our fitness. She takes account of everyone's posture and ability. The next day a couple of us notice the pleasing sensation of our abs being gently awoken and called into service.
I went on a Costa Calida retreat last October with a friend. We both don't exercise nearly enough (I guess talking doesn't count) and so were wondering what we had let ourselves in for! We needn't have worried as Fran our highly experienced Pilates teacher enabled us to join her classes at a level to suit everyone. That said, she gave us a challenge each day which was great fun! The outside setting for Pilates and yoga was so peaceful, with only the sound of the sea crashing against the rocks below and the occasional seagull! We were fortunate enough to have warm, sunny weather the whole week. Lisa our yoga teacher was also very experienced and one felt quickly at ease with her calming manner and soft voice. Lunches were delicious and plentiful and much needed to set us up for the afternoon trips. Antonio our guide took us to some very interesting places, we especially liked Cartagena with it's amphitheatre, tiny streets and shops. Our accommodation was excellent. It was very spacious with comfy beds, a wonderful seaview and a communal swimming pool. Each morning we enjoyed having a leisurely breakfast on the balcony. In the evening we could have drinks and watch the sunset. The evening meals were very enjoyable and we soon made friends with the rest of our party. I particularly liked the Puerto de Mazarron marina area where there was always something going on!! I would highly recommend this retreat, the service was top class and we were very well looked after from the moment we arrived to when we were taken back to the airport.
I was told this was a retreat for people who don’t do retreats and after a poor experience with a friend’s previous choice of yoga retreat involving physical discomfort, food deprivation and caffeine withdrawal I decided this sounded like my kind of retreat. There was certainly no food deprivation! This area produces most of the salad which ends up in british supermarkets and there is delicious meat, fresh fish and desserts on every menu. We had a lovely apartment with our own ensuite rooms, a balcony with a sea view and a small pool. The apartment was very well equipped with a dishwasher and washing machine. I have been attending Fran’s Pilates classes for over a decade and she is an excellent Pilates teacher. Our yoga teacher was also very good. We had massages which I would highly recommend. As ladies in our sixties we took a day off from all the activity to relax and this was fine. No pressure! I had a recent injury and in both the yoga and Pilates sessions I was given appropriate alternatives. We had some interesting tours and language sessions with our guide. Evenings were sociable. Costa Calida is low key, people were very friendly and Fran delivers great value for money. I am hoping to go again! It is fun to go with a friend but you will not feel left out as a singleton as Fran makes sure everyone is comfortable.
